Lara Arroyo BSc, PhD, Founder and Managing Director

 

Dr. Lara Arroyo (nlarroyo@menntun.org) is a founder and Managing Director of Menntun. Dr. Arroyo has published 12 research articles in taxonomy and marine ecology in peer reviewed international journals. Her speciality is in marine meiofauna, and copepod taxonomy. She has bilingual education (Spanish and English) and has translated scientific textbooks, research articles and web pages. She has also corrected and edited scientific manuscripts. Dr. Arroyo has organized and given courses in marine biology and ecology at undergraduate level and collaborated as teacher in courses on experimental design and statistics. She was a holder of a Marie Curie fellowship for her postdoctoral studies on effects of eutrophication on marine fauna. She has supervised 3 MSc students and acted as a referee for international scientific journals.

 

Emil Ólafsson BSc, PhD, Founder and Scientific Director

 

Dr. Emil Ólafsson (emilolafsson@menntun.org) is a founder and Scientific Director of Menntun. Dr. Ólafsson has published more than 40 research articles in peer reviewed international journals. His speciality is marine ecology of soft and hard bottoms in various ecosystems both in tropical and in temperate regions. Dr Ólafsson is an expert on meiofauna and has taught species identification of nematodes and harpacticoid copepods and used it in many of his publications. He has organized and carried out national and international courses on experimental design and statistics. He has also been invited lecturer in several countries, evaluated PhD theses and research proposal for various universities and funding agencies. Dr. Ólafsson has reviewed hundreds of manuscripts for more than 34 international scientific journals and sits in editorial committees of several international journals including Marine Ecology Progress Series. He has been Associate Professor at the Department of Zoology, Stockholm University where he has lectured on various subjects and supervised 8 PhD and 15 MSc students.


 

Raquel González Varas (raquelgonzalez@menntun.org) graduated with an honour degree in Environmental Sciences at the Universidad Europea Miguel de Cervantes de Valladolid. She has obtained the Individual Personal Accreditation for carrying out Environmental Impact Studies, from the Government of Castilla and León. After her graduation she has received additional training on environmental impact, waste management, environmental education and environmental management in the industry. She has professional experience in management of protected areas


 

Ernesto Gomez Sobrino, (ernestogomez@menntun.org), is an Agricultural Engineer from the University of Valladolid, specializing in Agricultural Holdings,. He has specialised in management systems of waste and recycling by composting. He has published two articles on biodegradation by composting. He has experience in various composting techniques, related to waste reduction and recycling


 
 
 

Collaborators

 

Ian Mayer BSc, MSc, PhD

 

Dr. Mayer is a full-time professor in aquaculture at the Department of Biology, University of Bergen, Norway. He has published ca 70 articles in international scientific journals. Dr Mayer is an expert within ecotoxicology, fish reproductive biology and aquaculture. Most recently, Dr. Mayer is focusing on studying the environmental impact of aquaculture. He has extensive experience in lecturing and supervising students, reviewing scientific articles and research proposals.

 

Javier Quevedo Ruiz BSc, MSc.

Mr. Javier Quevedo obtained his master degree in aquaculture from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) in Spain. He has an extensive postgraduate education in aquaculture mostly from China and Chile. He is a lecturer of aquaculture of the Catholic University of Temuco in Chile but has developed his professional career in several countries by focusing on small scale rural and integrated aquaculture. He has an extensive experience in tilapia culture but also experience in managing Amazonian species such as Tambaqui (Colossoma spp.) and Prochilodus, and the Chinese and the Common carp.

 

Michel Clément BSc, MSc

 

Mr. Clément is an agronomist by profession but also an expert in copepod taxonomy. He is presently residing in Stockholm, Sweden. As a specialist of marine and freshwater copepods, he has published several taxonomical papers in international journals. He is highly skilled in zooplankton identification and has regularly trained students in various techniques of collecting, preserving and identifying marine crustaceans. As an agronomist Mr. Clément has focused on areas such as aquatic plants, integrated pest management, technology transfer and research funding at farm level.

 

Danko Linder architect, landscape architect

 

Mr. Linder graduated as an architect from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne. He also has a master degree in landscape architecture by the Ecole Nationale Superieure du Paysage of Versailles, (France). He has a wide experience in construction and is a specialist in designing outdoor spaces and landscape planning. He has been a member of a winning team of several competitions, among others the new faculty of economics of the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and the new library of Leganés (Madrid). He has also studied alternatives of water recycling systems by using green filters (plants) for an urban project and has experience in landscape planning to boost tourist development in wine areas.
