Courses

Courses in management, analyses and presentation of environmental data

Using Excel to organize and analyse data (3 days)

  • Arrange data for statistical analyses and presentations
  • Descriptive statistics (average, mean, variance etc)
  • Parametric tests (ANOVA, T-tests, Regressions etc)
  • Non-Parametric tests (Man-Whitney U-tests, Kruskall-Wallis test, correlations, etc)
  • Pivot tables
  • Graphs

Target group: Anyone who already uses excel and want to use statistical routines provided by Excel. Ideal for those who are exploring patterns in data and need to do simple basic statistical analyses. Also good for those who want to extract information from large datasets

Summary and presentation of data (3 days)

  • How to interpret and extract relevant information from your data analyses
  • Using Excel and SigmaPlot to create graphical representations of data sets
  • Using PowerPoint to present environmental data sets

Target group: For those who need to prepare reports or presentations based on data analyses. Also good for those who want to get more elaborate ways of presenting data with powerful graphical programs.

Validity of data (2 days)

  • Conditions for statistical tests (Random sampling, independence of data, homogeneity of variances)
  • Sampling (Number of samples, sampling strategies, pollution studies)
  • Experimental and sampling design (Pseudoreplication, factorial experiments, block and nested design, power of statistical tests)

Target group: For those who need to validate collection of data and results from statistical analyses. Also useful for those who are planning data collection.

Multivariate statistics (5 days)

  • Measures of similarity
  • Clustering
  • Multidimensional scaling ordination (MDS)
  • Relating multivariate analyses to environmental factors

Target group: For those who need to explore large data sets involving many environmental variables.

Our objective is to transmit or strengthen in our clients the following ideas and capacities:

  • Understand the importance of a correct use of statistics as a valuable problem investigation and objective decision-making tool.
  • Enhance their ability to identify and use appropriate statistcal methods and software for data collection and analysis.
  • See how they successfully implement decision-making and collaboration in their working environment.

All our courses integrate a decision-making and statistical thinking theoretical base with continuous access to data and supervised practical sessions.
