European water framework directive related services
The Water Framework Directive (also known as the WFD or Directive 2000/60/EC) is a legislative framework to protect and improve the quality of all water resources such as rivers, lakes, groundwater, and transitional and coastal water within the European Union. The WFD was published and entered into force in December 2000 (Official Journal of the European Communities, L327, 22 December 2000, pages 1-72) and member states should have incorporated it into national law by the end of 2003. After this, a series of global steps should have been and must be taken to achieve "good status" of all European waters by 2015.
Menntun offers a variety of services related with inter-calibration and monitoring activities recommended by the directive among which are:
- To advice on implementation of the directive and how to better comply with its requirements.
- Design and preparation of sampling protocols for monitoring ecological and chemical water quality in a correct scientific way.
- Carry out sampling and identification of benthic macroinvertebrates and meiofauna.
- Analyze and interpret ecological data in order to assess quality and its evolution in a certain water mass.
